Estate planning typically makes use of numerous estate planning tools. Although your Last Will and Testament should be the foundation of your estate plan, you may also make use of other tools such as a funeral trust. If you are unfamiliar with the concept of a funeral trust, understanding some of the basics can help you decide whether including one in your estate plan is right for you.

A funeral trust requires the same basic elements as any other trust for creation?a trustor, a trustee, a beneficiary and trust assets. As the trustor, you will appoint the funeral home that you wish to handle your funeral and burial as the beneficiary of your funeral trust. You may also appoint the funeral home as the trustee, or choose another person as trustee who is unrelated to the funeral home. You must then fund the trust. Although you can use cash or any other type of asset to fund the trust, people often use a life insurance policy that names the funeral trust as the beneficiary. Upon your death, the policy will then pay out to the trust in an amount sufficient to cover your final expenses.

By creating a funeral trust, you can rest assured that your final expenses are covered and that your funeral and burial will be handled in the manner of your choice. Planning ahead also ensures that your loved ones and family members are not forced to make difficult decisions during such an emotional time.

In the vast world of computers and technology, the Internet acts as a lifeline. The World Wide Web connects everyone together, allowing users to chat with each other, to buy things instantly through websites, and to find almost any information. If the Internet is the spinal cord of the technological world, network cards are the vertebrae, allowing computers to communicate with each other.

A network either allows one or multiple computers to connect to each other in a Local Area Network (LAN), or it allows them to connect to the Internet in a Wide Area Network (WAN). Some networks are configured to allow both. In domestic applications, networking usually consists of allowing the computers in a household to share the same printer, to send and receive files, and to connect the computers to the Internet.

In order for one computer to be able to talk to other computers, or to an Internet service provider (ISP), it needs what is called a Network Interface Card, or NIC. This card is usually found inside the computer, and may be wired or wireless. Many computers offer both options.

A wired network card requires an Ethernet cable. This cable resembles a telephone wire, though slightly larger in diameter, and its end is about twice the size of a standard RJ11 jack. An Ethernet cable is standard for connecting a computer to a high-speed Internet modem, or to a network within the home.

Many computers, particularly laptops, now come with network cards that are wireless. These cards can communicate with a wireless router or network device. Wireless network cards allow users with laptops to roam the house while staying connected to the Internet, eliminating the need for a tethering Ethernet cable.

Celtics woeful in Game 1 loss. Can they beat the Heat?

The Heat dismantled the Boston Celtics Monday night in the first game of their Eastern Conference Finals matchup. The loss now leaves the Celtics looking for answers in solving Miami's twin threat of LeBron James, and Dwyane Wade.

Miami's LeBron James was having a lot of fun during Monday night?s game; so much so, in fact, that at one point he?couldn't help but snicker?in the face of Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett.

It was an embarrassing and telling moment for a proud Celtics team that could manage only a meager 79 points in losing the first game of the Eastern Conference Finals to the Heat, 93-79, at American Airlines Arena in Miami. With such a poor performance, Boston has made it all too easy for critics to suggest that the Celtics, particularly as Garnett and Ray Allen?s contracts are up this season, may not make it to another Eastern Conference championship, let alone another ring to go with 2008?s NBA title.

Boston?s ?three musketeers? of Garnett, Allen and Paul Pierce ? along with their ?D?Artagnan? in the person of Rajon Rondo ? have already been hobbled with injuries to Pierce, Allen, and guard Avery Bradley. But Monday night they suffered the additional disadvantage and indignity?of two technical fouls and a delay of game penalty in the first period that ignited the Heat as well as their home fans and short-circuited any attempts by the Celtics to gain momentum. As it turned out, they scored only 11 points in the first period, but did manage to regain some equilibrium to tie the Heat, 46-46 at the half.

James led all scorers with 32 points and 13 rebounds, complemented by Dwyane Wade?s 22 points and seven assists. The Celtics, by comparison, couldn?t find the basket; they were a collective 11-21 from the free-throw line, and the trio of Pierce, Allen and Rondo hit only 14 of 45 attempted field goals. Part of the reason for this was Miami?s blocked shots: a total of twelve, which is one short of their franchise record. The Heat also out-rebounded Boston, 48-33.

The Celtics have come to expect, if not fully depend on Rondo to manage their offense; as he performs, so does Boston. In the course of attaining nine playoff triple-doubles, he?s piled up the assists from quickly surveying the opponents? defense and outlet-passing to teammates either on the perimeter or in the post.

But last night, he was prevented from making another breakout by the tight defense of James and guard Mario Chalmers. Rondo was only 8-of-20 from the field, and though he did score 16 points, was held to only seven assists and no free throws.

Boston coach Doc Rivers, who asserted after the game that he admires Rondo?s aptitude and intelligence on the court, suggested that Rondo was not being intuitive enough in solving Miami?s defense.

According to Rivers, ?He?s got to be on the attack ? I thought he was reading a lot instead of playing on his instincts. I think sometimes his I.Q. hurts him. You can?t read and play at speed at the same time."

Rondo, for his part, said afterward that he felt the Celtics could be more physical with the Heat. He wasn?t?intimating that the Celtics might intentionally injure Miami?s players, but hinted that some Heat players might have to ?hit the deck? more as the series progresses.

The Celtics are as keenly aware as anyone that in order to get back on track with Miami they will have to score much more than they did Monday night. Simply put, if you don?t score, you don?t win.

Rarely has solid defense been enough to get a team a victory if they score only 79 points. If Boston can?t break the James and Wade juggernaut soon, they will most definitely exit within five games. The Celtics have switched to a zone defense against the Heat to some success in the past, but that strategy also carries risks: Wade?s and James? athleticism in driving through it, and their superior brand of perimeter shooting.

The Celtics, in contrast, need to drive the lane and use the absence of Miami?s Chris Bosh to take greater advantage of the post. Aside from the obvious benefit of giving Boston more high percentage shots, this conceivably could drive up the Heat?s personal fouls. In short, Boston will have to take the game directly to Miami?s strengths. There really is little alternative for them at this point.

Google report details publisher trends in display ad business ...

As report after report shows us, Google controls nearly half of the global online advertising market. So you can imagine that it has reams of data from which to extract insights.

To give publishers a window into those vast stores of data, the tech giant today released the first of what it says will be a series of publications that mine information collected from across its display advertising properties, including DoubleClick for publishers, the DoubleClick ad exchange and the Google adsense network.

Using data sets containing tens of billions of impressions served by publishers around the world, the report ranks content verticals by ad impressions and CPM. It also looks at trends in mobile Web and video ad impressions, as well as geographic patterns.

For example, Google found that, in 2011, Arts & Entertainment was the top vertical in monetized impressions across AdSense and the Ad Exchange, followed by Online Communities and Games. However, Shopping, Sports, Pets & Animals and Auto & Vehicle sites were among the verticals to experience the fastest year-on-year growth. Despite its high impression ranking, Online Communities saw a double-digit decline, as did the Business & Industrial and Reference verticals.

Looking at content verticals by CPM (defined by Google as the amount a publisher earns for delivering a thousand impressions through a single ad unit), Google found that Health came out on top, followed by Business & Industrial and Jobs & Education.

As for mobile Web impressions, Google said publishers in all verticals except travel saw double-digit growth in the fourth quarter of 2011. The strongest vertical in mobile usage was Shopping, followed by Food & Drink and People & Society.

Other interesting findings include:

• Indicating the boom in mobile, Google said mobile Web impressions on the Ad Exchange and AdSense platforms climbed 250 percent from the third to ?fourth quarter in 2011.
• Video is also growing, with video ad impressions increasing almost 70 percent across the DoubleClick for publishers platform, between the third and fourth quarters of 2011.
• North America and Western Europe continue to be ?powerhouses? of online content, but some smaller pockets of the world are posting very high growth rates in ad impressions, including Palau (1106 percent), Equatorial Guinea (4635 percent) and Laos (382 percent). The United States has the highest percentage of ad impressions (24.7 percent), followed by China (10.5 percent) and Japan (5.7 percent).

Focus on safety in youth, high school football

A few years ago, Omaha businessman Larry Hagan was watching a news report on concussions in high school sports and decided to do something.

Today, Hagan and his son Steve, an orthopedic surgeon in Omaha, have combined to write checks for $20,000 a year to cover the cost of the ImPACT neurocognitive test for 38 high schools, colleges and other athletic associations throughout Nebraska.

"It just tore my heart apart watching these kids in football, soccer, other sports, and I thought that something has to be done," Hagan said.

The ImPACT test, which compares pre-concussion and post-concussion test scores to help determine an athlete's ability to return to play, has gained widespread use in professional and college sports. Now it may be catching on in high schools and youth programs as a tool that could help alleviate parents' safety concerns.

"I don't think we're too far from having and pre- and post-concussion tests mandated," said Shannon Gerrety, the football coach at Blaine High School near Minneapolis. "It hasn't been mandated yet, but it's going to be. It costs 5-7 bucks a kid to do the pretest, which adds another expense. But it's worth it."

While Gerrety said football is more popular than ever in his area, he is hearing more safety concerns from parents. Gerrety's 13-year-old son, Sam, got a concussion while playing quarterback last fall.

"The concussion thing definitely is an issue," Gerrety said. "Twenty years ago you had a headache; now you might have a concussion. I'm not downplaying it. We're definitely watching it closely. Coaches have to be teaching tackling the correct way. We constantly preach to kids the right way to do things. If you do that, and you have trainers and parents watching their kids, it's manageable."

OSU football: Receiver Kevin Johnson transfers to Lamar

The Beaumont Enterprise first reported the text message.

Oklahoma State spokesman Gavin Lang confirmed Friday that Johnson had been granted?a?release from his scholarship?at OSU.

Johnson, who will be a redshirt sophomore in 2012, had no career catches at OSU but was listed as a backup at outside receiver on the spring depth chart. He had three catches for 95 yards and a touchdown in the Cowboys' spring finale last month.

Beaumont is about 85 miles east of Houston, where Johnson played high school football at Cypress Ridge. Lamar is a Football Championship Subdivision (formerly Division I-AA) school, meaning he will be able to play immediately.

Brazil forest law parts vetoed

Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff has vetoed parts of a controversial bill which regulates how much land farmers must preserve as forest.

Among the 12 articles which President Rousseff rejected is an amnesty for illegal loggers.

Brazil's farmers' lobby had argued that an easing of environmental restrictions would promote food production.

Environmentalists oppose the law, which the say will lead to further destruction of the Amazon rainforest.

The bill was approved by the Brazilian Congress a month ago. Environmentalists had urged President Rousseff to veto the entire bill.

President Rousseff rejected 12 articles from the bill and made 32 modifications to the text.

The exact details of the revised document have not yet been made public, but Brazilian Environment Minister Izabella Teixeira said the government wanted to avoid diminishing protected areas of the Amazon and other sensitive ecosystems.

President Rousseff opted for a solution often used here for controversial issues: try to leave everybody more or less reasonably satisfied, if not totally happy, and postpone tough discussions for later.

She vetoed some aspects of the new law that most concerned environmentalists, such as loopholes reducing mandatory reforestation and an amnesty for past deforestation.

But environmental groups, supported by many celebrities and a vigorous social media campaign, will be unhappy because the new proposals still afford less protection than existing regulations.

At a news conference, the ministers for the environment, agriculture and development said the president had struck a balance between preservation and sustainable development.

Brazil's farmers have long pushed for changes to the forest code.

They argue that uncertainty over the current legislation has undermined investment in the agriculture sector, which accounts for more than 5% of GDP.

But environmentalists campaigned for a total veto of the bill, which they said would spur deforestation in the Amazon rainforest.

Activist group Avaaz said it handed the government a petition with nearly two million signatures collected online from people in dozens of countries demanding a total veto.

The revised articles will now be sent back to Congress for another vote before they can come into force.

After her iPhone left her possession during a Disney cruise, a woman started noticing new photos being automatically uploaded to her iCloud account. The images include?the apparent phone stealer, a woman who appears to be his girlfriend and a bevy of their friends and co-workers. So the woman did what any clever but irate person would do: Upload them to a Facebook gallery, accompanied by hilarious captions.

Katy McCaffrey?went on a cruise aboard the Disney Wonder in April. At that time she lost possession of her iPhone.?In a comment on the Facebook album she created, she alleges that the smartphone was stolen by a man named "Nelson," who appears in many of the photos and is identifiable thanks to a Disney Cruise employee badge.

McCaffrey?is able to see photos taken with her iPhone because of Photostream,?an Apple feature which automatically uploads photos to a user's iCloud account. (It seems that the man using her iPhone didn't bother to disconnect her account or erase the iPhone.)

When?McCaffrey,?an L.A.-based "creative consultant in the entertainment industry," according to her social media profiles,?first began posting photos, the "Stolen iPhone Adventures"?album was private, but her friends quickly encouraged her to make it public so that it could be shared.?

"I can't see any reason why people shouldn't share this. [F]eel free," she wrote after confirming that her other private photos wouldn't be visible to strangers. The album has been shared over 3,000 times since she made the album public late Monday evening.

In a Facebook comment, McCaffrey?explained that she has alerted someone at Disney Cruise about the loss of her iPhone and forwarded the photos she'd recovered. "Hopefully I'll get my phone back and maybe some free passes to Disneyland," she added.

Rebecca Peddie ??manager of public affairs at Disney Cruise?? confirmed to TODAY.com that?someone from the company has indeed been in touch with McCaffrey and that they "are working on making it right with her."?Peddie explains that McCaffrey's iPhone has been recovered, but wouldn't confirm whether it was found in the possession of the man?who plays a starring role in McCaffrey's Facebook album. Peddie did say that?an employee has been placed on administrative leave while Disney Cruise investigates the situation.

We've reached out to McCaffrey to learn more about the incident, but she didn't wish to give an interview. So for the time being, all we've got are her parting words, in the form of a photo caption:

Jury to begin deliberations in John Edwards case

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) ? Jurors were set to begin deliberating the fate of John Edwards on Friday, weighing nearly four weeks of testimony and evidence from the former presidential candidate's corruption trial.

Edwards is charged with six criminal counts including conspiracy to violate the Federal Election Campaign Act, accepting contributions that exceeded campaign finance limits, and causing his campaign to file a false financial disclosure report. He faces up to 30 years in prison and $1.5 million in fines if convicted of all charges.

At issue is a scheme to use about $1 million from two wealthy campaign donors to hide the Democrat's pregnant mistress Rielle Hunter as he ran for the White House in 2008.

Jurors will have to weigh whether to believe Edwards, who argued that he didn't knowingly break the law, or his aide, Andrew Young, who said Edwards recruited him to solicit secret donations in excess of the legal limit for campaign contributions, then $2,300.

The choice before them comes down to choosing which liar to believe.

Young, the prosecution's star witness, falsely claimed paternity of his boss's baby in December 2007, after tabloid reporters tracked a visibly pregnant Hunter to a doctor's appointment.

Edwards repeatedly denied having a relationship with Hunter, only to go on national television in August 2008 to admit having a brief affair with Hunter but that it was physically impossible he was the father of her baby girl. In fact, his relationship with Hunter had lasted more than a year. A recording of that interview was played for the jury last week as the prosecution rested its case.

The bulk of the alleged illegal campaign contributions flowed to Young, including $725,000 in checks from heiress Rachel "Bunny" Mellon, who is now 101 years old. Young spent some of the money to care for Hunter, but financial records introduced at the trial showed the aide siphoned off most of the money to help build his family's $1.6 million dream home near Chapel Hill, N.C.

Another $400,000 in cash, luxury hotels, private jets rides and a $20,000-a-month rental mansion in Santa Barbara, Calif., were also provided to help cover up the affair by wealthy Texas lawyer Fred Baron, who served as Edwards' campaign finance chairman.

Prosecutors say Edwards knew about the money and directed the cover-up, showing the jury phone records indicating he was in constant contact with Hunter and Young while they were in hiding.

The defense countered that it is Young who should be on trial, not Edwards, accusing the aide of using Edwards' name without his knowledge to bamboozle Mellon out of hundreds of thousands of dollars for his personal use.

During closing arguments in the case Thursday, lead Defense lawyer Abbe Lowell admitted that Edwards had lied to his wife and the American people. But his client didn't violate federal campaign finance regulations, Lowell said.

"This is a case that should define the difference between a wrong and a crime ... between a sin and a felony," Lowell told the jury. "John Edwards has confessed his sins. He will serve a life sentence for those. But he has pleaded not guilty to violating the law."

Meanwhile, prosecutor Bobby Higdon used Edwards' old stump speech against him, saying the presidential candidate violated laws meant to protect "the two Americas" in an attempt to avoid a sex scandal.

"Campaign finance laws are designed to bring the two Americas together at election time," Higdon said. "John Edwards forgot his own rhetoric."
